Manly is the one!

We've just spent a week in Manly and it brings good news. This is where we want to live! We thought this would be the case before we arrived, but we wanted to try a few areas just to be sure.

Why Manly?

The beaches here are beautiful and there's two lovely ocean pools.  Some are good diving and snorkelling locations, which will be fun. I will miss running the coastal route between Bondi and Maroubra, but hopefully there will be some fun running spots here too.

The ferry commute is better than a bus ride to work. Bondi and Coogee were lovely, but the bus rides were long and hot—it took around 50 minutes to get in depending on the traffic. Tom being tall, struggled a lot with the lack of leg room on buses.

The fast ferry only takes 20 minutes to get from Manly Wharf to Circular Quay Wharf in the city. My only issue with the ferry is when the weather is bad. We had a few very windy days last week, which meant rough sea. I felt quite nauseous on those days. However, it's only 20 minutes, so it's usually okay for me. I'm sure i'll get used to it!

We found a flat which is around 7 minutes walk to the beach (running and surfing before work are likely to happen!) and 7 minutes walk to the ferry wharf. Perfect location! Rental prices are high round here, but we came here for the lifestyle, so we want to be in the middle of it all. We'll stay there for at least 12 months and see how we feel after that.

There's a brewery in Manly called 4 Pines. We tried it last week and it was great. Nice beer and good food. If beer is your thing, definitely go to 4 Pines.

Let's not forget Doughnut Time in Manly. The best and worst thing you can eat! I'm going to have to watch my doughnut consumption!

I met up with my old school friend of 18 years on Friday night. It was so nice to catch up with her and to see a familiar face. We weren't in the same immediate friendship groups at school, but we mixed with similar people and were always friends. We only see each other once every few years, but somehow we end up crossing paths and I really enjoy seeing her. She has great things to say about Sydney, which made me more excited about being here. I also met her friend who is lovely. We went to the Wharf bar which gets busy, but there's a nice atmosphere and there's a lovely view onto the harbour. It seems to be a very popular place to drink round here.
