Hello codebar Sydney!
While I lived in the UK, I co-organised codebar in Brighton. Codebar is a meet up which helps women, LGBTQA and other underrepresented people in the tech industry get started in programming. It’s run by volunteers and supported by local companies. The aim is to offer a safe and collaborative space to learn and tutor, while helping improve diversity in our industry.
It’s a cause which is close to my heart. I know very well that we’re not all handed the same opportunities in life and that journeys vary. I feel fortunate to have my career and to be able to do the work I love every day. I’ve also been lucky enough to meet some incredibly kind and generous people who have helped me learn and progress in my career so far, so I am passionate about sharing what I know with others and making the same opportunities available to others like me. I’d like to work in an industry which is diverse, inclusive and equal, so I’m doing something about it. Through codebar I help women, LGBTQA and other underrepresented people get jobs in the tech industry.
Learn, teach, sponsor and help spread the word
Our students come with a variety of goals. Some want to become full-time developers, whereas others want to learn the basics of coding to enhance their current jobs. Some want to learn programming as a hobby. Whatever the reason, we’d love to see you there!
Without our sponsors running codebar would be impossible. You can help by offering a space with internet for us to hold a Tuesday evening workshop and provide some food and drinks. Your company logo will be added to codebar’s website and you’ll be thanked both on Twitter, Facebook and at the event. If you’d like to help out, we’d love to hear from you! You can reach us on firstname.lastname@example.org
We’re excited to say that our first (monthly) workshop will be held at Campaign Monitor on Tuesday 5th September at 6:30pm. It’s an impressive venue and they are providing food and drink. We are extremely grateful for their help.
So, come along for food and drink and meet the team, meet students and tutors from the tech industry. We’ll provide an introduction to codebar and you can ask questions. Then we’ll start some coding!
I’m excited to have found a wonderful team to co-organise codebar Sydney with me. They are Georgie, Mike, Emma and Marlene. Feel free to get in touch with us on email@example.com if you have questions.
Students and tutors can sign up for our first workshop at our website: https://codebar.io
I hope to see you there.
